Springfield Armory has introduced a fresh addition to its firearm lineup: the XD-S 45.
This new concealed carry handgun packs a punch despite its compact size. It made its debut at Media Day during the 2021 SHOT Show, instantly capturing the attention of both dealers and firearms enthusiasts. Media Day 2012 saw the participation of many familiar names and a few newcomers, including Springfield Armory, a company renowned for its rich history of crafting exceptional firearms and pioneering designs.
The star of the company's announcement was the new Springfield XD-S 45, a compact single-stack pistol designed for the .45 ACP cartridge. Following the XD tradition, the Springfield XD-S 45 features a forged stainless steel slide coated with Melonite, a proprietary finish achieved through a salt bath nitriding process. The slide measures a mere 6.3 inches in length, while the barrel is a compact 3.3 inches long.
Just like other XD models, the XD-S includes a loaded chamber indicator positioned on the top of the slide. This indicator, a small metal strip approximately 1 inch long and 1/8 inch wide, extends slightly upward when a cartridge is in the chamber.
